With all the talk over the past few years of a potential Ronda Rousey rumble in the WWE, it may very well be her arch nemesis who finally gets to beat “Rowdy” to the punch.
On the official account of Cris “Cyborg” Justino (17-1 MMA), the women’s MMA legend laid down a challenge to WWE superstar Becky Lynch in no uncertain terms:
“If @WWE can’t get Rowdy in the ring I’m not afraid of @BeckyLynchWWE”
In addition to this challenge, Cyborg seems confident heading into her title fight next Saturday, as she is confident it would be the first time a UFC fighter would compete in a WWE ring while holding a strap:
“Has a world champion in mma ever wrestled @wwe in the USA when they were world champion?”
Cyborg isn’t the first female UFC fighter to call out a WWE Diva. Last year, Cat Zingano called out Sasha Banks on social media, stating that she would love to face off against the former Raw Women’s Title holder if she were “down for some realness.”
Cris Cyborg is possibly the second biggest name in women’s MMA history, so there could very well be enough incentive for the WWE to take Cyborg up on her offer. In fact, the WWE’s official website documented the social media exchange between the two athletes, where Becky Lynch seemed more than up for the challenge:
“I’ve never backed down from a challenge,” Lynch wrote on her official Twitter, “Come at me, bro.”
Lynch’s choice of words are a bit sharp, if not ironic, as many have questioned in jest the female status o Cris Cyborg, including Dana White who referred to her as “Wanderlei in a dress” and of course, her arch nemesis Ronda Rousey, who felt that after years of alleged steroid abuse, the pronoun “it” was in order.
Becky Lynch’s wrestling style would make for an interesting matchup at the Summerslam blockbuster, as she uses a submission-heavy style, highlighted by her finishing modified armbar, the Dis-Arm-Her.
Cris Cyborg would be the first female UFC Superstar to compete in a WWE ring. And this could open a door to a potential post-UFC career, joining the ranks of Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, and the current REIGNING, DEFENDING Universal Champion, BROCCKKKK Lesnar.
What would be the biggest twist of all, of course, would be if Cyborg’s potential entry into the WWE could see her crossing paths with lifelong WWE fan Ronda Rousey, who herself has been in contact with the WWE this past week while supporting close friend Shayna Baszler.
Could Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey’s match finally happen……but in a WWE ring?
While not the real thing, anything is better than nothing…..it’s still something…..in a ring…
