Brian Kelleher (17-7) vs. Marlon Vera (9-3-1)
Brian Kelleher Keys to Victory:
Most importantly, Cut off the cage. Vera’s biggest strengths are movement and kicks. But by cutting off the cage, Kelleher would largely neutralize those strengths, forcing Vera to engage in the pocket, where Kelleher is the stronger fighter. Kelleher moves well also, highlighted by nice feints, so he has the ability to control the octagon and the flow of the fight.
Marlon Vera’s Keys to Victory
Stay with the movement and leg-kick-heavy approach. This match has the makings to be a chess match, and that could favor the Ecuadorian. Vera’s most likely route to victory is a decision victory.
This fight has a bit too many questions, as Kelleher’s UFC time did not extend past the first round, and most of the other film available on him is from years back. I would leave this alone. But I can understand why Kelleher is the -235 favorite.
